In Sunday School last week, our teacher told a great story. He told about his son who REALLY wanted to play in the rain for some reason. He told his dad that since he really wanted to play in the rain that day, he would just pray to Heavenly Father, and ask Him for rain that day. The dad thought, "Wow that's a lot of faith, I'm not going to discourage him."
So with all the faith of a 6 year old, he prayed for it to rain that day.
It didn't rain.
It didn't rain for a while.
A few weeks later, it rained. The little boy came running in to the house so excited, and said "Dad! Heavenly Father answered my prayer! It's raining!"
What faith! And better yet, a delayed answer didn't discourage the boy.
I heard this great talk the other day, by Elder Richard G. Scott, this part is my favorite
"Faith is things which are hoped for and not seen; wherefore, dispute not because ye see not, for ye receive no witness until after the trial of your faith” (Ether 12:6). Thus, every time you try your faith—that is, act in worthiness on an impression—you will receive the confirming evidence of the Spirit. As you walk to the boundary of your understanding into the twilight of uncertainty, exercising faith, you will be led to find solutions you would not obtain otherwise. With even your strongest faith, God will not always reward you immediately according to your desires. Rather, God will respond with what in His eternal plan is best for you, when it will yield the greatest advantage. Be thankful that sometimes God lets you struggle for a long time before that answer comes. That causes your faith to increase and your character to grow."

thanks for sharing. you are just great. i know that we will have a different perspective when the blessings we so desire come. we will be like the little guy who said "it's raining!" even though it didn't rain when we first asked. as hard as it is, the testing of faith is also a great blessing, and we will appreciate the rain so much more because of its delay :)
LOVE that quote! It's SO true too..... After some trials (WAY after some of the harder ones :) I can look back at times and see why it all had to happen in the way and with the timing it did.....While in the storm it's hard to see through the elements, but there is ALWAYS a reason why THAT storm had to be there and why it had to happen for as long as it did..... Thank you for your thoughts and the uplifting help it brought :)
